The food was … exceptional … continuing the belief that triathlon really has a fourth discipline

The Point Series goes to the Female and Male that have the highest number of points in their best three races.  The recipients this year were Janelle Knickle and Liam Patterson.

The Warrior Award goes to the member that participates in the most number of races during the year — any type, anywhere.  The recipient this year was Steve Saunders.

The P-Series Award goes to any member that completes all three club events — a duathlon (run-bike-run), an aquathlon (swim-run-swim-run) and a triathlon (swim-bike-run).  Medal recipients included Caitlin Cormier, Diana Saunders (pictured above), Freda Cormier, Gail Mercer, Janelle Knickle, Karen Weagle, Ken Snook (pictured above), Kevin Johnson, Liam Patterson and Llew Chase.

And Tammy Slauenwhite was recognized for her outstanding efforts with the ‘My First Triathlon’ program this year.

The last club activity for 2011 is our Annual General Meeting on Saturday November 26, 2011 where we review 2011, look ahead to what’s coming in 2012 and elect a new executive.

A record turnout with 33 participants for the BTC’s final practice in the 16 week Fancy Lake series on Wednesday Aug 17th.  Conditions were perfect — sunny skies, warm temperatures and  a light breeze — a welcome change from the rain of late.

Each finisher was given a lei by our greeter and coach extraordinaire — Tammy Slauenwhite.

The final practice in the BTC’s 2011 Fancy Lake series takes place on Wednesday August 17th.  It will be a triathlon (swim/bike/run) with two distances for members to choose from:

• The ‘Sprint’ is an untimed and includes a 200 metre swim followed by a 5k bike and a 2k run.
• The ‘Olympic’ distance is timed and consists of a 400 metre swim followed by a 10k bike and a 2k run.

The pre-practice meeting takes place at 6:30 and we’ll start the ‘Olympic’ participants at 6:40pm.  Its meant to be fun and a chance to put together all the pieces we’ve been practicing the last 15 weeks.

There’s a social afterwards with good eats and a chance to share stories.  Many thanks to Morgan Donat – Massage Therapist for providing the draw prize for this practice — a one hour massage … sweet!

The Bridgewater Triathlon Club held their annual spring tri-camp on Saturday April 16th at various locations around Lunenburg.

Under the careful guidance of Coach Colin, we swam, ran and biked followed by a most delicious supper at Scuttlebutt.  Many thanks to Jen for her support.

Congratulations to all the participants … by all measures you’re heading into a good season!

ABOUT TRI-CAMP

This is the fourth year for a spring tri-camp by the Bridgewater Triathlon Club.  Open to all members, its an opportunity to see how your training is coming together as we head into the race season.

• 3pm – 2nd Floor of the Main Building at the MARC is open to drop off food/store your gear
• 3:30 to approx 5:00 – pond hockey
• approx. 5:00 – fun triathlon
• 5:30 – 7:00 – potluck supper

Also …

• “Take the Roof off Winter’ — a recreation program from the Municipal Recreation Department — is also taking place at the MARC so there could be lots of people around
• skis and snowshoes are available
• in addition to our events, there will be sledding, cross country, skiing, hiking, a skating rink with hockey and one rink without hockey

There is no need to reserve a spot, just make sure to show up ready to run (inside and out).  So start practicing your pacing skills and see you on the 21st!

What’s a prediction run?

For starters, this run has no watches, HRMs, GPS or any kind of music device.  On the day of the race the distance and route will be given out.  Based on this information you PREDICT your time which will be recorded then compared to your actual time.   The closest prediction to their time wins.  Speed is not relevant which means you have as good a chance as anyone to win!  All you need is to listen to your body and maybe a tiny bit of luck!

• Time: 6:00pm start
• Distance: 5-7Kms
• Cost: $5 plus a non perishable food item for the Food Bank

Prize will be given to the overall winner (closest to their time).

13 runners overcame their New Year’s Eve partying to participate in the 1st Annual Prediction Run.

In the end, Jeff Oakes narrowly prevailed with an estimated time just 0:19 seconds off his predicted time.  Congratuations to all the participants and thank you for your food bank food and monetary donation.  Jeff contributed his winnings to the food back as well!

Many thanks to Cliff Worden-Rogers ( www.livemultisport.com ) for organizing the event, the Patterson family for their help and support and HB Studios Sports Centre for letting us use their facilities and the use of the track.

All agreed that it was a great way to start of the new decade!
